On-site projects at Unitarian Society of Germantown


Bag lunches for local homeless agencies: Make 1,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and pack for delivery. This project is good for all ages. Registration will be on-site. Not available online.

NPIHN advocacy project: Decorate a “House for Change. This is a letter-writing and advocacy arts project. Good for all ages.

UUPLAN advocacy project: Letter-writing campaign for Unitarian Universalist Pennsylvania Legislative Advocacy Network all welcome

Martin Luther King reading and activity circle: Great activity for kids. We read books on the life of Dr. King. and participate in activities and games. Children of all ages.

Lunch bag decoration: We decorate the bags, add the lunch, and deliver to people.  All ages, families welcome. Sign up on-site. No ned to do so online.

Breakfast Bags: Make 250 bags and cards. All ages.

Coat Drive: Bring a new or gently-worn coat to donate.

Off-site projects

Interaction with elderly residents, Cliveden Convalescent Center: We're especially looking for musicians to play for the clients/residents. Families.

Warehouse work, Northwest Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network: Organize warehouse and move furniture. Ages 14 and adults.

Make ceramic bowls at Allens Lane Art Center, NPIHN: All ages. We make ceramic bowls that are then the centerpiece of a fundraiser later in 2012. This project has two shifts: 9:30-10:45 am, 10:45 am-noon.

Soup making at FUMCOG: Ages 14 and up.

Day center sanitize toys, clean up, data entry, and re-cover chairs, NPIHN: Ages 14 and up.

Letter writing and bulk mailing, Green Tree Community Health Care Foundation: Ages 10 and up.

Interaction with mentally challenged residents, Kaysim Court: Play games, including bingo, and arts and crafts project. We're also looking for musicians to engage with clients. Ages 14 and up.

Street clean-up:  Teams will work in the area around Unitarian Society of Germantown. Ages 10 and up.

Stenton Family Manor: Cleaning and organizing facility. Ages 10 and up. Family friendly.

Wissahickon Boys & Girls Club: Clean up/organize building, and crochet and make blankets. Ages 12 and up.

Germantown Boys & Girls Club: Clean up projects throughout building. Ages 12 and up.

Helping Hands for Seniors. Help senior residents in the area who need some basic cleanup or physical tasks done around the house that they're unable to do (clean out a closet, change a light bulb or a smoke detector). Ages 10 and up.

Children's arts project and building cleanup, Norristown: Children will make ceramic bowls and learn about Dr. King, and help adult volunteers in cleaning up and painting ACPPA's headquarters, 506 Haws Ave., Norristown.

Norristown Ministries Hospitality Center cleanup and inventorying: We will thoroughly clean the hospitality center, complete an inventory, and update client records. Ages 14 and up. Located at 530 Church St., Norristown

Project at Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center, Norristown. Cleanup and/or visiting. Ages 14 and older. We'll clean up and work with clients. Located at 1001 Sterigere St, Building 53, Norristown.

Andrew Jackson School library: Join 30 volunteers to barcode and shelve 1,000 books at the beautiful new Andrew Jackson School Library. Andrew Jackson, a K-8 school, is located at 12th and Federal streets in South Philadelphia. We’ll meet in the third floor library (sorry–no elevator!). Jobs include matching barcodes to book titles, attaching barcodes and call numbers, and shelving all completed books. Number of volunteers needed: 28; Age Range: Astute 4th Graders to Adults
